Bishop Philippe Jourdan
Mgr Philippe Jourdan is born on 30.08.1960 in Dax (France) in a catholic family, the eldest of 3 brothers from whom another is priest.
After studying mathematics in the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris, he entered in 1979 the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris from which he is diplomed. After a professional experience in the field of energetics , he went to Rome where he made his ecclesiastical studies in the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. He is actually finishing a doctorate in analytical philosophy.
He was ordained a priest on 20.08.1988 and is incardinated in the Prelature of Opus Dei and Holy Cross, institution of the Catholic Church to which he belongs since 1980. He worked as student chaplain in Paris (1988-1992), taking part among other things, in the preparation of various World Youth Days, and then as spiritual director of the Prelature of Opus Dei in France (1992-1996).
In 1996 he came to Estonia where he is until now living and working. In 1996 he was named Vicaire General of the Apostolic Administration of Estonia, his function until now. During this time he was also parish priest of the cathedral of St Peter and Paul in Tallinn (1999-2001). Since march 2004, he is vice-president of the Estonian Council of Churches, having been since 1997 representant of the Catholic Church in this ecumenical instance.
On the 23rd of March the Holy Father pope John Paul II appointet Msgr. Philippe Jourdan as Apostolic Administrator of Estnia and on the 10 of September of 2005 he was ordained bishop.
Apart from his native french, Mgr Philippe Jourdan knows also the following languages: estonian, russian, english, spanish, italian and german.
